Got Hacked

I have no idea how, but I managed to let a backdoor trojan slip past me. End result, my account got hacked last night while I was playing on it. I'm in the process of cleaning and fixing my system now, and waiting to hear back from Blizzard about whether it can be recovered or not. I'm like, extremely pissed, and if anyone was on my characters on the Cartel being an asshole, I apologize profusely, and it wasn't me.

I think I know which one you have, I recently installed it on my trash box (before I left) and watched it EAT all the other malignant files. It was awesome, and horrible. It also wrote itself to the registry, Made .txt copies of it's executables which would convert to .exe when an explorer window was opened, and over-wrote many many system drivers. Hell, it even created half a dozen rootkits and started copying and mailing out the cookies. I also think it tried to log my IP range, so hurray for not letting it interface with any other machines.

If this sounds like your virus ( symptoms include pop-ups that you CANNOT kill, slowdown, and certain devices not being recognized. ) then have fun removing it, it's been found living inside banner ads and streaming video.

It's like aids, but harder to cure without supr srs tech-know how.

I think I had computer with that once, or something much like it. I think I solved the problem by screaming obscenities at the computer and smashing it to pieces with a fire axe.

Well...I haven't ever had a WoW trojan, probably because I stay away from those add-on sites, for the most part.

But, no, I haven't seen any of your SWC Characters even online in the last little while, so...

I'm willing to bet it's not from any addons because I haven't gotten any since pre-WotLK patching, and don't even have too many in use. That dropped drastically. The recurring text in my virus scanner so far is Backdoor.Win32.Frauder with one of four extensions; .fc, .fg, .eq, or .er. I also had Trojan.Win32.VB.hpf come up a couple times. Googling them now so I know what they are, but I get the general idea. Also, I'm glad that the asshat didn't get to the cartel characters. He totally raped my Venture Co. nubs though. My former roomie and some of my other friends watched me dc and thought it was lag till I came back and didn't say anything to any of them. So they followed my characters around everywhere to see what was going on. After several trips to the bank, seller npc's, then the mailbox it was pretty obvious. Then when that was done and over with, and he took all the gold and shit from my characters, he took my 70 to Shadow Labs and spammed for groups.
